Scalev is a simulation tool developed within the SISCOM (Smart Services for Information Systems and Communication Networks) research group of the Department of Telematics Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. It can be freely distributed exclusively for educational purposes. Its goal is to introduce students to the simulation of transmission systems at device level, using a simple graphical user interface in which all the simulation parameters are shown in a single simulator window.

The main features of Scalev are:

• Event-driven simulator
• Multiplatform (programmed in java)
• Possibility to define from 1 to 3 incoming traffics, with selectable distributions for inter-arrival time and packet size
• Different traffic categories
• Different schedulers: FCFS, Non preemption priority, Weighted Round Robin and Deficit Round Robin
• Different queue size for each category
• Single server or multiple servers
• Simple simulations and simulations sweeping some parameters
